Artist Statement

This body of work comes from an interest in the natural world and our increasing desire for commodities. She focuses on sustainability and biodiversity. Her research has been into the world of fungi, which she takes reference. She constructs sculptural forms and environments from the detritus of both the natural and manufactured worlds. The salvaged discarded objects are transformed and activated through the medium of fiber reflecting natures symbiotic relationship with all life. Committed to utilizing recycled materials the process of foraging, carrying, sorting, cleaning, drying, ripping, cutting, tearing, stitching, knitting and crocheting allows for a meditative process in the construction of each ephemeral piece.

Janine Kelly is a visual artist working in Dunmore East Waterford.
